ECCMA NLI (Natural Location Identifier)
The NLI is a simple 14 digit code used to represent any phyiscal location on earth including inside a building. The NLI is a free “natural” identifier, you simply calculate it by applying the ECCMA 1-4 standard to your GPS coordinates and you apply the same standard to convert an NLI back to your GPS coordinates. The standard gives GPS coordinates a human friendly 14 character code called the Natural Location Identifier or NLI. The NLI uses both number and uppercase letters leaving out the letters “I” and “O” that can be easily confused with the numbers 1 and O. The NLI is a “natural” identifier so you do not need to pay a license fee to get one and you do not need to retrieve location information from a registry, the location is encoded in the NLI itself.
